Stay in town and come on down to The Pier on Friday, July 4, 2008 where you will be entertained beyond your wildest dreams! Starting with a local favorite "Rhythm Method", from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in the Waterside Courtyard, you can listen and/or dance to your favorite hits from the 70's, 80's and 90's!
The Supervisor of Elections office will be on hand from 12-6:00 p.m. with information about voting in this year's upcoming elections.
McGruff the Crime Dog will also be at The Pier from 12-8:00 p.m. for hugs and handshakes. McGruff Safe Kids will offer FREE ID's for your kids and parents will receive a FREE CDrom with their children's fingerprints and medical information on it.
Joanne Conte and friend will be here to face/body paint your favorite July 4th icon - fireworks, starts, flags - for a nominal fee - on the 1st floor near the Hurricane Simulator booth from 2:00-9:00 p.m. "George Washington" will also be making a special comedic appearance from 5:00-8:00 p.m. - roaming around The Pier. Look for him!
The "Dance Heads" will be here, again, for a return engagement where you can make your OWN interactive music/dance CD in our Dockside Activity Room from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Also from 3:00-6:00 p.m., enjoy the antics of Fran, the Mechanical Woman, as she performs her mime act at The Pier.
From 3:00-9:00 p.m., meet and greet with Shriner, Kristy Knight, and Nancy and Chris from WMTX Mix 100.7FM fame in the MIX tent at the front of The Pier.
From 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Courtyard, experience Drum Circle Facilitation by Giving Tree Music. Playing music together puts us in touch with the creative force that directly connects with our humanity. We will be holding Drum Circles at The Pier on the second Saturday of every month from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Courtyard.
The "Suncoast Band" joins us from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the Waterside Courtyard with hits from the 50's, 60's, 70's and today for your dancing and listening pleasure as the day goes on.
At 8:00 p.m., Jack Harris, from WFLA 970AM radio, will introduce this year's Miss Florida contestants in the Courtyard by the band. Kylie Williams, Miss Florida 2007, will sing the National Anthem prior to the fireworks show.
To culminate the evening, fireworks will be shot at 9:00 p.m. off Spa Beach - sponsored by the City of St. Petersburg. The July 4th Extravaganza is brought to you by The Pier, Clear Channel Radio and the City of St. Petersburg. The event is alcohol free and no personal fireworks are allowed.
